Interview with a star - Aleksa (CitrusCat)
Today, we'd like to introduce our team member Aleksa who runs CitrusCat shop on Etsy.

- Please tell us a little bit about yourself
What can I tell about myself?
I'm 23, I have a young, ambitious and full of hope for a brighter future. :)
By education I am a psychologist, but psychology does not attract me as a profession.
I'm a self taught handmade artist trying to turn my favorite hobby into life style and profession.
I create unusual jewelry. But sometimes I move in the other direction. Spontaneously I can start making greeting cards or decorative items for the home. In short, I am a creative person and quite unpredictable even to myself. I guess that's my trick.
- How long have you been creating? How did your journey in art and creativity begin?
I loved to make things since I was small. As far as I can remember as a child I drew a lot, asked my grandmother taught me to embroider. Then I wanted to make clothes and I wanted to be a designer.
My path to the creation of jewelry was long. At some point I started to sew felt brooches.

After a while I realized that I like to make jewelry and I started trying different techniques and materials.
Now I’m fond of creating resin jewelry. I chose this material and technique because it allows me to create different things without limiting the imagination.

In future I want to try to use other materials and techniques.
-What is the most important about your work?
I can identify several aspects that are important to my business. This is a good mood, inspiration, and support of my family
In my work I like the fact that I’m the owner of business and can do what I want.
No doubt, it creates a good mood which I put in my work.

One of the most important events for my business was opening a Citrus Сat shop on Etsy. This was a good incentive for me.

- What would you say makes your shop unique?
The original approach to the creation of my jewelry is making them unique.
I am a self-taught and eclectic artist, who works with a variety of techniques.
My jewelry is a world full of colors of life.
With my jewelry I want to make the world more beautiful and colorful.
I hope you enjoy my creations, as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Please come to my Citrus Cat (www.CitrusCat.etsy.com) store. And get a portion of happiness. :)

How did you hear about us?
I was always curious to learn how people find Russian Artists team on Etsy. Every day a few new shops join our team. They find us among many teams on Etsy and many more other Russian speaking communities on the web. To find out where our amazing team members come from I just added a question to our standard Russian Artists team questionnaire. The question being "How did you learn about Russian Artists team?"
I would like to thank all the shops that answered the question and provided us valuable and interesting information. It looks like most of the new team members learned about our team through their friends. Other sources of information about our team are Life Journal and Internet forums. That means Russian speaking internet community out there is talking about us. This is great news! Word of mouth is a very powerful tool. If used wisely it can be extremely helpful in creating and building a strong brand.
Interestingly, a few our team members found us through searching Etsy teams and just searching the web. That means our team tags work pretty well!
Overall it looks like friends’ referrals and Life Journal discussions are for now the main source of information about Russian Artists for our future team mates.
I will continue collecting marketing information and sharing it with you. I believe it is very important to know how people find us, what they think about us and what we could do to become even more successful as a team!

Russian Artists team first meet up in Washington DC
Russian Artists had its first team meet up in Washington, D.C. this past weekend. We all got together at the Torpedo Factory art center that is an amazing place where artists have their studios and sell their original artwork.
It was great to meet in person and talk about our Etsy and Russian Artists team experience! I hope it will turn into a tradition and we will have our meet ups in D.C. on a regular basis.

Pictures are Tonya from CityCrochet, Reghina from birchtreejewelry and Anna from aniutik

Shabby chic simple decoupage box DIY tutorial
Do you like decoupage as we do? :) Today Natasha who runs Grimme shop on Etsy is sharing great and easy to follow tutorial how to make decoupage wooden box. Look at this gorgeous shabby chic piece of art that you can make on your own!
Materials needed:
1) wooden box
2) white, ivory, grey and burnt umbra acrylic paints
3) assortment of decoupage napkins
4) decoupage glue or acrylic furniture varnish
5) piece of fine kitchen sponge
6) stiff bristles brush
1. Cover the box with the primary layer of white paint. It will strengthen the adhesion between the base (box) and all further layers.
2. Let it dry and then cover the box with the ivory paint
3. Choose the decoupage napkin with the figure, suitable to the box by the size, proportions and general idea.Cut the figure out, put to the top of the box and carefully spread the decoupage glue all over it. Be careful do not to tear the cut out and to delete all the air bulbs, that can appear
4. Let it dry
5. Apply 2-3 layers of acrylic furniture varnish (dry each one before putting the next)
6. Take a stiff bristles brush, take a bit of grey paint to its tip and apply to the box's sides with the sweeping moves. Do the same with the burnt umbra paint, but try to use as small quantity as possible
7. Take the piece of fine kitchen sponge and apply very small quantity of burnt umbra paint to its side. Then press it gently to the upper edge all over its length to get the dark brown rim
8. Let it dry and cover all the box with the 2-3 layers of acrylic furniture varnish (dry each one before putting the next)
Enjoy the vintage box, done by your own hands)

Alice in Wonderland
“Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do. Once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of a book”, thought Alice, “without pictures or conversations?”…”
The ever popular “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” is the kind of book that does not make you bored. It sure has some conversations to keep you entertained. We know it from childhood yet we still find it fascinating through our adult years.
The story of Alice brings out the magical world with riddles, logic games and puns, and strange creatures; it stimulates our imagination; it inspires us to blend fantasy with reality.
“Take some more tea”, the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet”, Alice replied in an offended tone, “so I can’t take more.”
“You mean you can’t take less”, said the Hatter; “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”
Every now and then all of us need to travel down the rabbit hole to break away from bogging routines. Sometimes we need a mad tea party to give us a fresh perspective on things and inspire our imagination. Taking some time with a good book such as “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” is a great way to bring more creativity into your life.

Russian team members meeting in Israel
As you know, all our team members speak Russian. However, only some of us live and work in Russia, we are really worldwide team!
A lot of us, of course, live in Israel. After a long online communications we decided to meet together in the “real world”. Israel is a small country, so distance is not put a crimp to enthusiasm! So in one sunny and hot Friday in June we all were invited into Nataly’s (Bonbonland) beautiful house.
We gathered around the table to see each other and talked just like girls: about fashion, sales, children’s education, recipes of delicious pies...
But at the same time we are artists and Etsy-shop-owners, so we discussed a lot of HOT stuff: taxes and shipping, blogs and PR, materials and creativity…and boasted our new creations!
Lena’s (Elenushka) daughter made this fun blue beaded lizard
Inna’s (Leris) new felted scarf.
Maria’s (CallOfEarth) wonderful bracelet
Ira’s (TomBjornDesigns) eye-catching earrings
Lena’s (Justlena) and Maria’s bracelets
And our Sweden guest Ira had time to make her lovely earrings and necklaces even at the table!
After several great hours we all had to go home, but we agreed to meet again many times!
