Duo Chevron Cowl to knit, free pattern

Winter is here so is the chilly weather and holidays season.  Let's knit a cowl today! This is a great way to make a warm gift for your friend or maybe yourself.

This free knitting pattern was kindly offered by our team member Tetiana Otruta. Her Duo Chevron cowl is fun to knit and also a great way to use some leftover yarn for your project.

 

Duo Chevron Cowl 

Finished measurements:
Circumference: 23 ½” / 60 cm relaxed; width: 8 ½” / 21 cm

Skills required: knit, purl, double decreasing, make a stitch from strand between 2 stitches, knitting in the round.

Materials:
Worsted weight wool or wool blends yarn (about 110 yds/100m in 3.5 oz / 100 gr.):
Color A (purple) - about 80 yds/72 m
Color B (pink) - about 80 yds/72 m
Needles: US7/4.5 mm, US6/4.0 mm circular needle (24”).

Pattern Style: Written instruction with abbreviations and additional chart for stitch pattern. The pattern is slightly different then the photo provided.

Free printable Valentine's day collage sheet

Show me who doesn't like to receive gifts :) We believe all of us like it. We wait for some holiday or any other occasion to get some surprise present, are we? The same as receiving gifts, I like to give them. Especially, if I make them with my own hands. We always believe when we make something, there is a part of our hearts in the gift. So... Why not to make something small for Valentine's day? Let me inspire you :)

Today, Irina from GraphicLand is sharing a collage sheet with Valentine's alphabet letters that can be turned into necklace, key chain, or other hand crafted items. Please, reed a tutorial how to make an adorable necklace.


The alphabet letters printable collage is 8,5x5.5 inches with 300 dpi resolution which is a half of letter size. It can be printed on regular color printer at home. I would recommend to print it on laser printer. The circles are 1 inch in diameter, and they are perfect for bottle caps or glass tiles.

Halloween hat DIY

This lovely hat might be exactly what you need for your fun Halloween Party! Svetlana from NESJewelry will show you how to make this! 

You will need

1.      a sheet of thick cardboard or .5 inch-thick sheet of Styrofoam

2.      an umbrella you do not need

3.      thick fabric such (old jeans will do)

4.      scissors, thread, needles, pins, sewing machine, exacto knife

5.      a cat :)

First, draw 2 concentric circles with diameters of 4 and 8 inches on the cardboard sheet. Cut out a doughnut shape using exacto knife.

Remove fabric off umbrella and cut off two sectors.

Cut the same "2-sector" shape out of your thick fabric (jeans). Fold that thick-fabric shape in two and sew it into a cone - it will be used as the centerpiece of the hat.

We will use the remaining sectors of umbrella fabric for the hat's brim.

We will need to remove all the corners first so the outer edge looks like a circle.

Then cut off extra fabric from the central part so you have strip 10 inches wide in a shape of a curve. Sew together the edges of the strip so it makes a circle (sort of).

Thread the narrower edge of the circle so its width matches the bottom of the cone and sew them together by folding the fabric face to face and then stitching through. Insert the thick-fabric cone into the hat and attach lightly with thread.

Pin the underside of the hat to the cardboard doughnut and turn the fabric over while gathering it and pinning it up to the cardboard.

You will need to pin it so the fabric completely covers the cardboard and meets the seam where the cone was attached to the brim thread the fabric to make sure you have gathered it uniformly and hand-sew it together.

  Now your hat looks like this!

Thread the cone along the seam so we can gather it a bit to make the tip of the hat crooked. And that completes our effort - the hat can be worn now! 

Of course, you can add some beads

  or flowers

or ribbons

 or whatever decorations your heart desires!
