Aquamarine, the mineral of the month for March

In translation from Latin Aquamarine means "sea water" from aqua meaning water and marinus meaning sea.

In antiquity aquamarine was believed to be one of the most powerful magical stones. It was used in amulets meant to increase its wearer's foresight, keep him calm and protect him against storms and hurricanes. This stone would enable its owner to see the magical meaning of everyday events and make him understand hidden emotions in his surroundings. Aquamarine purifies thoughts of his owner and directs his energy into good deeds. This stone is a judge and a teacher, it is wise and fair. People who are predisposed to lying and being unfair should not wear this stone - it will not do any good for them.

Aquamarine should be worn by sailors, travelers and researchers. It can help you quit smoking and drinking, rid you of irrational fears, and help you to truly forgive.

Wonderful things Wednesday - Holiday gift guide: Precious & Semi-precious stones

We all love jewelry. Jewelry has been worn by humans since prehistoric times. Beautiful stones were taken from nature, then cut, polished and used to enhance a lovely metal necklace or a ring.

Since ancient Greeks people started to divide stones for precious and semi-precious. In modern classification, the precious stones are diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. A large amount of the stones are in the other part, semi-precious. The most important in this group are: amethyst, lapis-lazuli, turquoise, aquamarine, topaz, moonstone, peridot, opal, tourmaline, zircon, chrysoberyl and alexandrite. These classifications are based mostly on demand and value of the stones in a commercial world.

The world of gems is colorful and intriguing and everyone chooses a right stone to suit his own style and personality. Jewelry pieces with a nice stone can be a lovely thoughtful gift for the people you love!
