A card for your mother

Today Alisa from GraphicMarket shop on Etsy is sharing great story and ideas for making a greeting card.

We all have our own little traditions, the way we do things – my personal little obsession is card making. Christmas Cards, greeting cards for birthdays, thank-you cards and so on. Of course we never have time for such things, but the process can be so relaxing that you can make cards for half a year ahead just in one go.

Lot’s of my friends told me that they are waiting every year for my Christmas card to arrive. It was so sweet when I realized that people are keeping my cards, they don’t throw them away! It makes my hobby very special.

Here you can see my latest creations that will suit perfectly mother’s day theme.

For this project you will need:
 - Thick cardboard (I used watercolor paper)
 - Ink (or a felt pen)
 - Ribbons (preferably 2 shades and 2 different width)
 - Glue (any paper glue will do, but I prefer to use double sided tape, it creates less mess)
 - Printable digital paper or digital collage sheet – that’s my favorite! This magic stuff turns any card into a masterpiece! Try to find 2 matching patterned papers, just like I did – polka dot and flower pattern – they work well together) I used a usual printer to print the patterns on A4 format thick paper.

That's probably all we will need. :)

For your cards you can try the ideas on the photos. At fist glance it seems you really need to have some drawing skills, but look again and you’ll notice that the best cards that I made are dead simple!

For example little cute dress on the drying line – easy to make and it’s such a cutie! Or hearts in the shapes of balloons – that’s another great idea for you – be creative and be confident – you’ll get it right)

Tips:

• Simplicity is the key! Keep it simple, keep it fresh and don’t clutter all you scrap booking elements on one card. Even if you put just one shape out of scrap booking paper (a heart for example) and write a name of the recipient underneath it will look stylish and elegant
• Have a color scheme. 1-2 colors that work together will look better than a rainbow of all your favorite colors together
• Add personal touches – even if it’s just a hand written message or doodles around the edge – it will help your card to stand out and will show the recipient your true affection.
• Ribbons and bows are simple but very effective tool in card making - they are cute and they add 3D to your card. (The easy way to attach the ribbon, when you’re using it horizontally, is to make a little cut at the side of the card, thread the ribbon through the hole and glue both ends of the ribbon inside the card – you’ll get clean ends of the ribbon and no glue on the front of the postcard)

The same as receiving gifts, I like to give them. Especially, if I make them with my own hands. We always believe when we make something, there is a part of our hearts in the gift. So... We all know that the time is a little bit stressful because we are all looking for perfect gifts. Well... let us bring small detail that will make you a little bit less under pressure this holiday season. :) Gift tags... They will be really useful when all gifts are ready and wrapped.

You can download the digital collage sheet there. For better result, we'd recommend to print on laser printer on heavy paper like 80-100 lb. The collage sheet is designed to be printed on standard letter size 8,5x11 inch with resolution 300 dpi.


So you need simply download, print, write a name on the card, and cut it out.


Than, fold it as shown on pictures below.



Than, make two similar cuts on the folded edges. Just keep the parts together and make the cuts.


Make them wide to fit an edge of a plate


And place them on the plate's edge. Easy!

Harvest time! Victorian fruit free digital collage sheet

So... summer is almost gone. It means that harvest time arrived, and fruit are ripen and ready to be picked. And today, Irina (GraphicLand) is sharing free digital collage with Victorian fruit for scrabble and glass tiles.

Glass tile pendant tutorial

We would like to share an easy to follow glass tile pendant tutorial by Irina who runs GraphicLand shop on Etsy.


First of all, you need an image. For example, you can download and use images on this blog. Print images on heavy paper (80-100 lb) on laser printer.

NOTE: Please keep in mind, that the collage sheets can not be sold as a collage in digital or printed form.

To make the pendant, you will need an image, settings for glass tile, glaze, and super glue (it's better to use gel super glue).



You can buy supplies in SunAndMoonKits shop on Etsy. The seller is very nice and responsive. She always open for custom quantity of items. :) If you are planning to make just 1-2 pendants, you probably will need just sample size of glaze - not the big bottle.

So... lets make the pendant :)

First, cut of an image.


Then, apply a little bit of glaze on the back side of the glass tile. Well... maybe not a little bit but more :) So it shouldn't be a very thin layer.


Spread it evenly without air bubbles inside. Place the image with face side on the glaze and gently press it from center to the edges. Be sure, that there is no airy spots between glaze and paper. Also, paper should slide on the glaze when you touch it. It means that right amount of glaze applied. Be sure that edges of the paper are also with no air between glaze and the image.

Set aside the glass tile for a couple of hours while the glaze become firm. Then, just trim extra paper on the sides and remove extra glaze from the glass.


Put a little bit of super glue in the setting.


And place the glass tile with paper side down.


And your pendant is ready :)
