I love Thanksgiving. It is not as commercialized as Halloween or Christmas so it is almost overlooked but it’s such an important holiday!
Traditionally it marked the end of harvest season and the entire community would get together to celebrate it after all the hard work.
History books will also tell you the story of the Plymouth colony in New England in early 17th century. It’s the story about how they did not have enough food to feed half of the 102 colonists and how the Wampanoag Native Americans helped the pilgrims by providing seeds and teaching them to fish, thus saving their lives.
Thanksgiving is the day to get together with the family and friends. Everyone gathers around a big festive table. Roasted turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie… Mmm… I’m getting hungry. What are you having on Thanksgiving day?
Thanksgiving is also the day to count your blessings. You should be doing it more than once a year but it’s nice to have a day that encourages you to do so. Think of all the good events, things, and people in your life – and if you don’t get many, try harder :)
Thanksgiving is the day to give thanks and feel grateful. Try this: ask everyone at the Thanksgiving table to list five things that they are grateful for. It’s a good exercise both for children and adults alike. And it’s fun!
The Russian Artists team wishes a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
